What Is Digital Printing?

Digital printing is a modern, state-of-the-art decorating method that applies full-color artwork directly to glass and ceramic surfaces—no screens, pads, or transfers required. With advanced digital technology, we print vibrant, photo-quality designs directly onto glass and ceramic with outstanding precision and consistency. This technology has quickly become a go-to solution offering flexibility, efficiency, and brilliant results every time.

Unlike traditional screen printing that require setup for each color or design, digital printing allows for limitless creativity: gradients, fine details, and even photographic images are reproduced with stunning clarity with only one setup. It’s perfect for short runs, frequent design changes, or high-impact visuals that demand attention.

How Does It Work?

1. Artwork Preparation & Proofing
Once we receive your order, we’ll begin preparing the artwork by making any necessary adjustments for print quality before sending you a proof for approval. Our prepress team ensures that your file is optimized for the best possible clarity, registration, and color reproduction.

2. Surface Priming & Print Setup
Once artwork is approved, we’ll begin priming your ware to assure the best possible adhesion for the substrate. Test printing is done before every production run to make sure registration, colors, and print quality are of the highest quality.

3. Precision Printing with Advanced Technology
Your order moves through a specialized UV-LED digital printer equipped with high-speed piezoelectric printheads. The machine lays down your design in ultra-fine droplets, allowing for incredible detail—gradients, shadows, and even photographic images are no problem.

4. UV Curing & Protective Finish
Inks are cured during the printing process before applying a varnish layer for protection with a final curing process. Varnish provides a protective layer and a beautiful, glossy finish to make your colors pop.

Is Digital Printing Right for Me?

Digital printing is a versatile, full-color solution ideal for a wide range of applications—from bold promotional items to personalized gifts. While it may not match the high durability of traditional enamel prints, it’s still a powerful solution for many applications. With the addition of a primer and/or protective varnish, our digital prints are top-rack dishwasher safe for up to 150 cycles in residential machines. That makes them an excellent choice for:

• Promotional items
• Retail merchandise
• Branded gifts
• Bars and restaurants with three-compartment sinks

Digital printing also opens the door to produce one-off items, making it ideal for personalized gifts and small-batch custom orders. This service is only available upon request and each order will be priced individually based on the specific details and quantity.

Digital Printing FAQs

Are digital prints dishwasher safe?
Yes! Digitally printed products are top-rack dishwasher safe for 150 cycles or more in a residential dishwasher. Digital prints will not hold up with commercial use, but bars and restaurants utilizing three-compartment sinks for washing will be able to take advantage of this process.

What is the turnaround time for digital printing?
Turnaround time is dependent on a few factors including current production load and the quantity ordered, but we can typically expect to produce about 200 units per working day or about 7-10 business days after art approval for orders under 1,008 units.

Can I order less than the minimum quantity?
Yes! We offer less-than-minimum printing upon request, with quantities as low as a single unit. This is excellent for personal gifts, limited edition prints, and more. All less-than-minimum orders are quoted individually based on the artwork, item, and quantity ordered.

Will the colors match my submitted artwork exactly?
Most artwork and colors will translate beautifully, but we can’t guarantee exact color matches. Color output can vary based on factors like product substrate, print settings, varnish coat, and color layering. With CMYK capable of producing roughly 16,000 color variations, we’re confident that we can come close to your submitted colors. Spec/pre-production samples are available for any jobs needing strict color accuracy.
